[050607][10:34] <CyberMad> how to install fast customized OS with some application to several PCs ?
[050607][10:35] <CyberMad> does it possible use Acronis True Image?
[050607][10:35] <LordFox> So we're not gonna use that. Ballsac: use the other paste site and we will take a look at it.
[050607][10:36] <CyberMad> so i make backup of customized PC, then just copy the image to other disk
[050607][10:36] <LordFox> Ehm, basically, yes
[050607][10:36] <LordFox> Are these PCs in an AD network?

[050607][10:40] <thor^^> Nero is much faster....
[050607][10:40] <CyberMad> LordFox nope..
[050607][10:40] <CyberMad> LordFox why if the PCs in AD network?
[050607][10:40] <d1ce> RIS FTW
[050607][10:40] <LordFox> Cyber: when you just make copies of the machine, you get into trouble with Security Identifiers (SIDs)
[050607][10:40] <LordFox> they cannot be the same in AD.
[050607][10:41] * Quits: ballsac (i=lollypop@199.76.160.107) (Client Quit)
[050607][10:41] <LordFox> If you put the machines in the same network without AD, you still need to change the names.
[050607][10:41] <LordFox> Netbios stuff
[050607][10:42] <CyberMad> actually i planning to use AD later.. (next week)
[050607][10:42] <CyberMad> there are 25 computers on network
[050607][10:42] <LordFox> Next week....ok
[050607][10:42] <CyberMad> it's difficult for me to customize each PCs
[050607][10:42] <LordFox> next 2 questions: are all 25 machines exactly the same
[050607][10:43] <LordFox> 2. are you familiar with RIS

[050607][10:43] <CyberMad> that's i want to tell you.. all pcs have different hardware
[050607][10:43] <LordFox> ugh. not nice
[050607][10:44] <CyberMad> so, what i'm planning is.. installing the OS then, the apps, customize the windows, registry, etc

[050607][10:44] <LordFox> Ok, what OS did you want to put on those machines? XP?
[050607][10:44] <CyberMad> then make backup image of it

[050607][10:44] <CyberMad> then copy it to others PC.. at last, install the driver
[050607][10:44] <CyberMad> is that ok? the os is XP
[050607][10:45] <CyberMad> damn.. some PC is original :(
[050607][10:45] <LordFox> Ok, yeah, you can do that. What you might want to look into, if you have the time, is a solution based on WindowsPE (Pre-execution Environment)
[050607][10:45] * Quits: ubajas3 (n=smokalot@cm-84.210.203.112.chello.no) (Connection timed out)
[050607][10:46] <LordFox> There's a solution called BartPE which you can use to load images made with an imaging application
[050607][10:46] <CyberMad> at least i need some utility to do automatic configuration of those PC
[050607][10:46] <LordFox> (like driveimage.exe which is about $50 I think, with BartPE being free)

[050607][10:47] <CyberMad> ok, i will google it
[050607][10:47] <CyberMad> thanks LordFox
[050607][10:48] <LordFox> What you should do i put all drivers you need on all the machines in the basic image, then every machine can load the correct drivers after booting (detecting new hardware and stuff like that). You will need to reboot all the machine one or several times ofcourse, but you do not have to manually load all drivers on the machines

[050607][10:49] <CyberMad> ok
[050607][10:49] <LordFox> You might want to make sure the mother image is up to date with patches and updates, depending on (corporate) policy.
[050607][10:50] <CyberMad> ok, thanks.. first i read and learn about it
[050607][10:50] <LordFox> There's also a tool called NEWSID that can create a new SID for the machine. Make sure it is in the image and run that after loading the image and hardware detecetion, but before connecting the machine to any network.
[050607][10:50] <LordFox> It will save you a lot of work later when you want to put the machines in Active Directory
[050607][10:51] <CyberMad> ok
