Thank you for you is help. If I may, can I offer a suggestion? To me anyway this is unclear. To me the term Free Press refers to a newspaper which is free of advertisements, free for anyone to contribute to, and free to read and view. The Winnipeg Free Press is not any of these. You have got tons of advertisements. And you obviously do not allow freedom of speech. Myself and countless friends have tried to get editorials, letters to the editor, and other short articles into the paper. It seems if the view is at all towards the opposition, or it does not fit the ideals of your supporters it is rejected and ignored. Even on the website, making people pay to access information, even the idea behind having premium access to have more detailed information.
As a student, and future leader of the country I just find this a disgrace. I think you should start publishing facts rather then what you think we want to hear. We are always fed the corporate side. Why not tell the other side. Instead of telling us constantly about the soldiers getting killed in Afghanistan, why not enlighten us. Why exactly are we in Afghanistan? What is our progress there? What are we doing in Haiti at the moment? Are we helping out in Venezuela?
There are so many untold stories that need to be discussed. If you are not going to be the ones to tell them, then we must rely on the truth. The independent (Indy) media organizations. Why not try setting up a public forum on the Winnipeg Free Press site? Shouldnt news be by the people and for the people.
It is time that the people of Winnipeg return to the presses. We will stand up, and we will become the media. We have enough of this corporate garbage.
Sincerely,
A concerned citizen.
