my modem is hanging up but i can't find anything in my log files to tell why
sometimes it will stay connected for 3 hours but more often than not far
less, tonight for example it disconnected after a few mins.

[quozl]: find the modem init string being used by your windows system and use it in linux, typically this would go into /etc/chatscripts/ file for the connection.

May 28 23:06:04 netrek pppd[9059]: Modem hangup
May 28 23:06:04 netrek pppd[9059]: Connect time 2.6 minutes

[quozl]: most likely cause is settings wrong in the modem.

i have included some info on my setup and in particular do you see anything wrong with any of the pppd rcvd/sent messages? (LCP etc..)

[quozl]: yes, there is a rejection of CCP by the peer, so add noccp to pppd options in /etc/ppp/peers.

[quozl]: suggest you try removing ATZ from here, leaving just AT, and then see if the problem goes away if you connect first with Windows then with Linux. ATZ clears the modem's configuration back to saved settings.
