A girl was born, on a summer’s day, on a poor man’s farm. She lived there, not traveling, until she turned 14. On that same day, she decided to go visit the city of Camelot, to see what it was like. On the way there, she saw some lilies on the side of the river, and goes down to talk to them. After talking for a while, she realizes it was getting dark, and would not be able to make it home in time. The lilies, who were very rich, offered to let her stay in their wonderful castle, on the island of Shalott. There she said, and there she fell in love. With the lilies. She decided to live the rest of her life there, and thus became, the Lady Of Shalott. Each day, she would go outside, and sit on the waters edge, to talk with the lilies. They would talk of marvelous things, like Lucy in the sky with diamonds, and the new red teddy bears they got in the mail. One day, the lilies noticed the lady was not paying attention, seemed dazed, looking in the direction of the town of Camelot. The lilies were very angry, because she was no longer paying attention to them. More and more, the lady paid less attention to the lilies, and more attention to the glow of the town’s lanterns. The lilies grew very jealous, and decided to curse the lady to stop her from looking at the town. On the day of her twentieth birthday, she came outside, to follow her daily ritual of talking to the lilies, and found them chanting in a circle. The lady asked them what they were doing, and the lead lily cackled, you are now cursed! You must never again, look at the city of Camelot, or terrible things will occur! The lady ran inside, and scared, took the curse to heart, and never again went outside.

Note for the reader: Yes, I know that lilies are flowers.
