Words from our employer
Stéphane Laurière has written the following comment on our work on the project. It is reproduced here with his permission:
“Jan Øyvind Åkre, Per Øyvind Karlsen and Roger Kristiansen have shown very good capabilities both on the technical side and on the communication side. In a first phase, they gained knowledge of the EDOS P2P platform infrastructure and of the Eclipse Rich Client Platform. In a second phase, they issued the specifications of the target platform together with the other members from the EDOS P2P platform team, and they developed the corresponding modules in splitting the work between them. In the last phase, they produced a documentation about their work.
All this work has been carried out in a context of a distributed team located in different places across Europe (3 different places in France and 3 others in Norway). Jan Øyvind, Per Øyvind and Roger have proved they have a high maturity and autonomy level in taking the most of the modern communication tools, which is key aspect for nimble engineering teams, especially in the open-source area. A dedicated blog has been set up to communicate over the work progress, as well as a TRAC instance; the project's wiki and the project's Jabber chat rooms have been extensively used. In taking the lead on some management tasks, Roger has shown excellent capabilities in coordinating a small team of distributed developers.
The bachelor project has been a success in various aspects: the developed prototype has been included into the mainstream EDOS P2P platform, the technical contributions have been instrumental in identifying issues in the EDOS P2P platform backend, and the work achieved will make it possible to experiment the EDOS P2P platform with real end-users. The programming mode has followed whenever possible best practices in object oriented software engineering. The code contributions will be taken over by INRIA and Mandriva development teams. Part of the documentation written will be included in a deliverable of the EDOS project.
Jan Øyvind, Per Øyvind and Roger have shown an impressive energy and a strong will to progress. It has been a pleasure to work with them. Mandriva hopes this first joint experience with OUC will pave the way for other collaborations between the two entities in the future.”
