It was one evening while I was hanging around with some friends watching a movie. However the movie got boring, so we decided to go on YouTube and watch some interesting videos. One video that caught our attention was a hockey goal made by a Michigan player who had obvious masterful stick handling skills. While watching this “Michigan” goal over and over again, we decided that this goal is almost impossible to be done by any of us. This statement however prompted us to make bets with each other saying how we will be the first one to be able to learn this trick.
I was introduced to hockey in my sophomore year in high school only because I was able to skate well. So naturally while I can skate around fine, my stick handling skills were lacking. Knowing that I lagged behind all my friends who started playing hockey when they were 7 or 8 years old, I had no time to lose. For two weeks I watched the videos repeatedly, I considered learning this trick second only to my school work. Everything else I enjoyed doing when I had free time was thrown aside so I can practice; hanging with friends to go out and watch movies were postponed, playing computer games after homework, and even reading novels were stopped. I did all this not because I wanted to win a bet, but because I wanted to actually learn this shot.
When I did actually master it, and showed it to my “experienced” friends they were dumbfounded because of all of us, I was never expected to learn it much less be the first one to do such a move. It was from this little period in my life that I realized “When there is a will, there is a way.” I know for a fact that I have a way to succeed in temple, because I have the will to.
