My short-term goals are short and sweet. This summer, aside from work, I plan on practicing as much as possible. Also this summer, in addition to big band and/or combo at Collin, I plan on playing in the EMANON Jazz Orchestra (a youth big band co-led by Prof. McNerney and including some friends of mine) and getting some good performance practice.
It is my intention to be a jazz music major, particularly in the performance area. I have also had some interest in composition, but not nearly as much as I am in performing. Words cannot express how much I enjoy playing jazz.
I believe that Collin County Community College will be a big stepping-stone in my music career. I have been there several times for Jazz camp concerts, regular concerts, and to meet up with friends who are already in the program. I believe it would be a great environment for my first college experience, because the smaller number of students will allow me to receive more hands-on attention from the faculty and give me the potential for more performance opportunities.
I feel it is also important to mention my current financial situation, which is part of the reason I am trying out for this scholarship. This is not only a test of my ability as a performer, but also a great opportunity to help my family and me financially. I currently help pay for rent, and although community college is not that expensive, being awarded a semesters worth of tuition would greatly ease our burden in that area.
I look forward to attending college here in the near future, and I thank you for your consideration of me for a scholarship today.
