T is me, A is friend, B is person helping them

A> well first you have to encode the audio seperately
A> it did that
A> and when it began the video
A> my computer made 2 horrible sounds
A> then the screen went all funny
A> all verticle colored lines and locked up
A> I thought it blew my vid card
T> you have anything else going at same time
T> vid card shouldnt be needed when its encoding
A> well once before when my last vid card died
A> thats what it looked like
A> i wasnt at the keyboard
A> but my kid was near
A> she said the computer made 2 loud sounds
A> as soon as besweet was done I guess
A> it when it happened
A> and it locked up..I could not turn it off
A> had to use emergency switch

this part they pasted to me from when someone was walking them thru setup

A> ok so
A> heres what ive done
A> gordian knot is installed and I ripped a dvd in ifo mode
B> Open Gordian knot
B> Click the tab that says ripping. It should be the first one
B> Do you see in the middle where it says preparing the vobs?
B> You have to click that icon of lights
B> it should bring up a blank screen
B> press f2 and then select each vob in the numerical order they appear
B> make sure you select each one because each one is a different segment of the movie
B> and then click OK
A> after I select the first a file list box appears
A> do I then click add
A> to put each other on the list
B> Yes
B> you do that for each one
A> done
A> 6 vobs added
B> now click video/field operation and make sure honor Pulldown flags is checked off. That is the option you want to use at first
B> and then click audio/output method and make sure demux all tracks is checked
A> done
B> OK now press f5 and the video should start playing and you should see some statistics to the right. If the video type is film 95% let me know
B> it might say film with a low percentage at first but it increases as it plays
A> its up to 92% so far
B> once it gets to 95% that is all of the info we need and you can press escape to stop the Playback. Make sure you notice if the aspect ratio is widescreen or full screen 16:9 or 4:3
A> its 16:9
B> After you stop it click video/field operation and check off force film
A> done
B> Whenever you have a movie that says film 95% you must use force film
B> anything else you use honor pulldown flags
A> ok, why?
B> but you always play it at first with honor pulldown flags
B> force film is ivtc
B> when you see a release nuked for bad.ivtc It's because whoever encoded it used the wrong options
B> what you just played would probably go to 100%
B> once it reaches 95%+ that's all you need to know. You don't need to wait for it to go to 100%
B> now press f5 began and let it play just for a couple of seconds. You will notice in the statistics it changes to 23 FPS
A> 23.99
B> after it plays for a couple of seconds press escape and then press f4 to save it. You will have to type in a name for it. After you click save it may take a couple of minutes to completely save it
B> I usually name it however it's going to be named when I pre it. I usually do movie.name.here.year.ws.int.dvdrip.xvid
A> so rename and save?
B> yep
A> done
B> you should see a bar under the screen filling up slowly
B> once it finishes you can close that screen
B> I'm probably going to have to go through this with you again with a movie that isn't film 95% because there is a couple different things you have to do with those
B> you have to actually manually select ivtc with those
A> is there any way to use decrypted files that are not done in ifo mode
B> what bit rate do you want to encode the audio into for MP3?
B> No
B> I usually do vbr 192 bit rate
B> never EVER use cbr because you will be nuked within seconds
B> 192 is probably the best you can do without sacrificing video quality
A> i wonder if there is a way to reload already decrypted files back into decrypter and change/redo them into ifo mode
B> well, you can use them if you can figure out which ones are just the movie
A> i have about 10 movies already decrypted on teh HD...i already returned the dvds
B> ifo mode just takes the movie part without the menus or special features
A> its done
B> OK you can close that screen
A> you mean close out gordian knot
B> no, that screen that was playing the video
A> done
B> OK you should see a button that says open in the bottom left corner of Gordian knot. Click it and select the file you just saved
A> is it the .d2v?
B> yup
A> its loaded
B> OK you should see still pictures
B> of the movie
A> yes
B> make sure it's at a spot in the movie where you can see the edges clearly. I usually have to find a spot where it's light on the edges not dark
B> you can minimize that
B> and then click the tab that says Bitrate. It should be the second tab
B> You see where it says container? Make sure it says AVI
A> it does
B> and for codec it says XVID
A> k
B> and right under container it should say calculate bit rate or something like that
B> not file size
A> yes..calculate is checked
B> OK how long does it say the movie is? It should say duration
A> 5291 seconds
A> 1 hour, 28 min, 11 seconds
B> anything over one hour 45 minutes no matter what it is needs to be 2 CDs
B> OK so it will be a 1 CD release
B> you see where it says audio 1?
B> Audio a I mean
B> click bit rate and then click the drop-down box and select 192
B> To the right make sure it says 1 CD == 700 MB
B> and right below that it says 1 CD
B> And check off the box that says split final file into CDs
B> you want that always checked even if it is a 1 CD release
B> You see where it says interleaving and overhead?
B> check the box that says calculate overhead
B> and where it says audio 1 make sure it says vbr
B> vbr mp3
A> done
B> You don't need to touch audio 2
B> Click the tab that says resolution
B> should be right next to bit rate
B> Where it says input pixel aspect ratio for this release you want anamorphic 16:9 since it is a wide screen movie
A> done
A> input resolution..there is also pal
B> You see where it says Crop? You should see a auto crop button. This button is your best friend. Press it
A> could you encode pal xvids?
B> yeah, it will say pal because we chose force film
B> you will see the difference when you have a movie that isn't film 95%
A> pressing auto crop
B> OK
B> it should then show numbers to the right where it shows four sets of numbers: up, down, left, right
B> you shouldn't see any black borders on any edges anymore
B> now we need to make sure it's cropped properly so go back to those sets of numbers and press the down arrow just one time for the top number (top part of the video) and then check the picture to see if you see the very beginning of a black border
A> it looks the same
B> keep clicking the down arrow once at a time until you see the very beginning of a black border
A> i see a tiny black line now
B> OK now click the up arrow just once and then the top border of the movie is perfectly cropped
B> you have to do that now for the bottom, left, and right unless one of those sides already says 0
A> ok done
B> that auto crop button just pretty much gets you in the neighborhood of it being correctly cropped
A> its at 0 on right and left and 62 top and bottom
B> that sounds exactly right
B> but they won't always match just so you know
B> You see where it says h-module in the middle right by width and height
B> Change that number to 2
A> done, it was on 16
B> OK at the bottom you should see something that says bits/pixels
B> with a number
A> the number is 0.227
B> OK you see the up and down arrows right in betweenWidth and height?
B> Click the up arrow until that bits/pixels number is as close to 0.200 as possible without going under
A> 0.205
B> OK perfect
B> what does it say for width and height?
A> 672/274
B> OK that's not good. The width can never be above 640 so click the down arrow onceUntil it says 640
B> the bits/pixels number should change
A> on done
A> numbers are now 640/260
B> OK I'm assuming the bits/pixels number went back to 0.227
B> which is still a good number
A> yes its back to that
B> now click the still video and click save
B> some options should come up
B> right at the top you will see something that says sharp bicubic under resize filter
B> OK save it
A> now i see divx encoding panel
B> that's where it should say resize filter
B> sharp bicubic
B> at the top
A> i went past that
A> first thing on this place is multi passes
B> OK we need to go back because there should have been a button that says save without encode being with it
A> ok i closed it but now sure where to go now
A> its on encoder tab now
B> do you see the still picture of the video?
A> no
B> It's not minimized or anything?
A> looks like it saved the encoding job
B> That's not good. Might have to delete it and do it over. Set the configuration anyway
B> delete that job
A> cant I just reload it
B> and at the bottom left corner you should see something that says either open or close. Hopefully it says open
B> if it has a saved job it will do that instead of the real encode
A> delete is greyed out
B> did you click the job?
B> You have to click it to highlight it
B> and then delete should be good to go
A> there is nothing in the jobs box
B> OK then we are OK
B> does it say open or close at the bottom left corner of Gordian knot?
A> open
B> Click it
B> and choose that same file we did originally
A> still pic is back
B> minimize it
B> click the bit rate tab again
B> tell me if the settings are still the same as we had them
A> they are
B> click resolution and check the same thing
A> yes
B> right next to that button in the bottom left that says open should say close now with a set of numbers next to it that should say 23.997 or something close to that
A> it does
B> OK on the bottom right you should see a button that says rename. Click it and then type XVID in that bar and press enter. This will save your settings so for your next movie you only have to change a couple of them
A> rename is greyed out
B> OK I know why. We will skip that step for a minute
B> click the still picture and there should be a button that says save and encode. Click it just one time and tell me exactly what comes up
A> the save .avs option box comes up
B> with the resize filter options?
A> where sharp bicubic is
A> says resizing
A> selected output resolution
B> Yes, check that and then at the very bottom there should be a button that says save and encode and a completely separate button that says just save. We need to click the one that just says save
B> check sharp bicubic I mean
B> just click save
B> it will probably ask you to overwrite
B> just click yes
A> done
A> it went back to the still pic
B> now minimize the still picture and click the encoder tab
A> done
B> To the left you will see a button that says add. Click it
A> dixv control panel is up
B> should see something that says right in the middle source audio file or something like that
B> click select
A> i see 4 ac3 files
B> Yep, choose the first one
A> so highlight and open?
A> well thats what i did
A> back to previous panel now
A> on audio 1 tab
B> Yes, and you should see an option that says something like 128 average bit rate MP3
A> shows file path of the ac3 i just chose
B> yes
B> right below that you should see what I just said
A> ya..says 128
B> check it off but make sure it says average bit rate and then change the 128 to 192
B> we don't want constant bit rate
B> that is instant nuke
B> at the very bottom you should see a button that says add to job queue no video
B> we are going to encode the audio first. It is extremely important to do the audio first so click it and it should ask you if you want to start encoding it now. Click yes
A> done
B> a command prompt should have come up in your taskbar minimized
A> besweet is working
B> just let it do its thing
A> right now Im clicking what you say without really knowing what it means
A> what i'd like to know is how to determine the different settings depending on the source
B> for some reason the FPS always has to be 23.997 for xvid
A> so..there is no way to tell with a progress bar how long the audio encoding will take
B> No, you can usually tell by what it is showing
B> it shows a timer and goes up as long as the movie is
A> its on 54:16
A> with last numbers flying by
A> shouldnt be much longer
A> and thats when I crashed
T> hmm so you had a vid window open that showed progress?
A> no
T> oh the besweet window
A> it was doing the audio first
