Paste Description for Feisty Nightmare
Brace yourself. This is a long one...
I was working on a client's machine with the new Feisty release. While copying files from CDs over to the home partition (which is separate from the root partition in this case and would not interfere with it), I was installing lots and lots and lots of packages, namely a lot of games (gotta keep 'em entertained), nvidia drivers, java, build-essential packages, and kernel headers (didn't realize I already had them). I had not yet installed a new kernel or anything like that.
When I tried to unmount the CD I was copying from, it said it was out of space and couldn't unmount because it couldn't create the temporary files to handle the process (funny how 5GB of root partition can go away so quickly). Sure enough, dpkg had been interrupted. I fixed dpkg and removed a lot of the games I installed, freed up enough space to work with for the moment. I also cleaned out the package archives, of course. There was still over 10GB free on the home partition. While I was doing some unzipping and organizing of some files in a terminal (and with the help of file roller), the machine suddenly locked up. It could have been an X lockup, because the cursor was still working, but either way I was forced to do a hard reboot. When I was booting up again, I got this.
