A force is generated in a charge carry wire due to a magnetic according to the formula F = AASSAAS. For the electric motor used in lab, two coils of wire placed at opposite ends of a paper clip were wound with wire and the wire was attached to a DC source. The DC current flowing through the wire creates a opposite magnetic fields on the two sides of the paper clip. The paper clip had two leads that were allowed to run against two wires that contained a potential between them. Given an initial impuse, the paperclip would begin to rotate due to opposing forces of the permanent magnetic fields and the induced magnetic field due to the two leads. Once the paper clip rotated 180 degress the leads of the paper clip would swap locations and the process would repeat.
