Hi,
Recently, i saw some comments made by david about a his plan to include a new drawing interface to compiz, which according to what he said, can solve many of the problems we currently have in an efficiant way.
Personally, I think such a interface is a great idea, and will probably improve compiz a lot.
As someone who is wlling to contribute to compiz, I think notifying the all developers about your work there will be a good idea.
What i mean is, that so far i have seen you mentioning it in some different places around the ML, but i haven't seen any real details of what it is, how it works, what it is good for, etc...
As you probably know, i spents ome time re-writing a transparent cube for compiz too, by adding new BTF / FTB painting masks.
When I did that, i completely forgot about your drawing-interface, because of the lack of any "real" comments on it, except some random by-the-way notes.
Even now, I really don't know if your drwaing interface has some other solution for BTF / FTB drawing, and knowing about it before working on the patches could probably save me some time (waiting for the drawing interface to be done, and then just patching cube's paint order, without actually doing BTF / FTB masks).
I think this is a very good example why knowing what is actually going on, and what people plan to do is important.
I want to note that i'm not only talknig about the new drawing-interface.
I think any other major thing that is being worked on should have some kind of a statement in the ML.
This of course applies to the new drawing interface, but also applies to all other interfaces you are planning, or will plan in the future.
I think this is something critical for developers-communication, and will save a lot of time and work of developers.
I hope you understand.
Thanks,
Roico.
