I've got two servers which are high-availability, managed by Heartbeat.
As such, there is 1 public and 1 private IP address that they both
share; the active box assumes those two IP's when it is called into
action. The private interface on each of these boxes, according to
ifconfig on each, are 10.0.0.11 and 10.0.0.12. However, the private IP
managed by Heartbeat which references the active box is 10.0.0.1 (also
known as shared-priv.domain.com).
I'd like to get statistics on that shared private IP interface; the
problem is, every time the idle box swaps with the active box, the MAC
address obviously changes, as does the information represented in an
'ifconfig' on the active box. It seems that Cacti uses the information
contained in the ifconfig output to determine what the 'inet addr:' is,
but is there a way to tell it to simply use the 10.0.0.1 address for all
of it's SNMP calls?
I've tried putting shared-priv.domain.com as the FQDN when adding the
host, but it still gets the inet addr for the private interface from the
ifconfig output. Maybe this is just something that isn't possible with
Cacti?
