Hi Bernhard

You can try to add this chip to SIMpad.
The interface is on the PCMCIA bus, so you do not need to solder
the wires to the CPU directly. You can use the pins of the PCMCIA
drivers. I cannot give you the schematics of the board but I can
help you to find the correct pins.
The USB host requires considerable power. Driving a USB memory stick
is no problem but other devices will empty the battery quickly...
Try to find someone with electrical engineering background to avoid
wrecking your SIMpad.

Regards
Walter

Betreff: Simens SIMpad - adding USB Host Controller ISP1160 aka LQFP-64

Dear Mr. Schweizer,
my name is Bernhard Guillon. Guylhem Aznar, who you helped by his MMC
mod, gave me your email adress. I hope that this is ok for you.
I want to add a USB Host Controller ISP1160 aka LQFP-64 to the SIMpad
SL4. Unfortunate I am not an electrical engenier. I think your time is
short so I don't want to disturb you. But if you have some time I would
be verry lucky for some help.
I have a connecting shematic (AN10025_1.pdf wich I added as attachment.
My main problem is that I don't know if it is a clever idea to just
solder some wires on the named cpu pinns. I think I will destroy my
SIMpad by doing this. Are the Mainboard shematics available for free?
Could you say me where I have to solder the wires? Many many thanks forward!

If you have any technical information which you could give me for adding
it to opensimpad.org - I would be verry happy, too.

regards
Bernhard Guillon

Hi Bernhard

Sorry for the late answer. I was away.

You can add USB in parallel. You need the pins that go to PCMCIA.
You connect them before the buffer though.
Then the chip select will define where the USB chip resides in the
processor's address range.

Hello,

I want to thank you for your efforts!
Now I asked me if it is possible to add it parallel to the PCMCIA
adapter, so the adapter is free for a WLAN card? Or is ist better to
connect a CF adapter to the USB host, so the resulting card will fit in
the PCMCIA slot and give a CF slot + USB instad of only PCMCIA or USB.

Bernhard
