1. What is your current compensation and what are your expectations?
I am currently making $37,000 a year, however the cost of living in
the UP is much less than that of the Ann Arbor area, and I am not
terribly satisfied with the salary I have, as I have recently picked
up photography, and need more disposable income to maintain my
'addiction.' Bluntly, I am looking for something around $60,000 with
benefits, though this position interests me, as I believe I can prove
myself, given the chance, to command a higher level position with
Google.
2. Do you have your own car and license and can you reliably travel to
our work locations on a daily basis?
Yes, I recently purchased a 2002 Forester.
3. In this role, you can expect to spend 80%-90% of your time in a
data center working on hardware projects such as upgrades, repairs,
pulling cable, and similar. The work is usually team or group
oriented. Data centers are designed for computers. They are cold and
noisy, with air blowing all around. They are lit by artificial light.
How do you see yourself in such an environment day in and day out?
Headphones and coats are beautiful things, assuming they are
permissible. Otherwise, I think I'll survive, I'm used to the cold,
after all.
4. We have several other openings for which you may be well suited.
While this position does not require relocation, please let us know
if you would be willing to relocate and thus be considered for these
other positions.
The position may not call for relocation, but I doubt a 6 hour (12
hour round trip) daily commute is really feasible. Thankfully, I have
friends and family in the Metro and Ann Arbor areas. Some compensation
for relocation would be desirable. And I would certainly appreciate
any opportunity for a higher-skilled job.
5. Please provide some dates/times when you are available for a 45
minute phone interview.
Any day after 5:30p EST would be fine, if possible, otherwise
arrangements can be made for a lunch-time interview, in advance, any
day of the week. Weekends are also fine, if possible.
6. Please provide the number you can be reached at.
