<volkerdi> just wanted to let people know if rob and other already aren't that
there *is* progress occuring on -current.
<volkerdi> I'd considered going only-SMP for kernels, but have found a machine
or two that blow up while installing with those kernels. Interestingly,
other SMP boxes are fine. And so far, ALL uni-P boxes are fine with
an SMP kernel.
<FriedBob> volkerdi: At various times, I have heard discussion of PAM and Slack, and that
it might be included in an /extra type fashion, what's the accurate and
official story on that? My main interest is becuase I want to try to use
SELinux with Slack and that's been my biggest hurdle the various times I have
had enough time to try
<volkerdi> FriedBob: the biggest problem with PAM is that it becomes a dependency for
everything. Second biggest problem is that many things need to be patched (or
IMHO forked) to work with it.
<volkerdi> I know people were wondering if I was hit by a bus ;-)
<gemidjy> u weren't ?
<volkerdi> well, it only nicked me
NightTiger/##slackware wonders if it's appropriate to ask why no PostgreSQL in
Slackware, and subsequent Pg support in PHP, but is slightly in awe of Mr. P.,
so isn't sure.
<volkerdi> Again, PostgreSQL ends up being found by compiling things and becomes a
dependency. MySQL is continually improving, and is good enough for most uses.
And, one simply can't ship (and maintain) everything.
<volkerdi> I like FF's "restore session" feature a lot. :-)
<volkerdi> _Hitek_: Modular X is in -current here, and is fully up to date with the
latest ftp.x.org/pub/individual/
<Dame> volkerdi, can we expect gnome to become part of slackware again? I know its a time
consuming job to maintain it but, is there any chance?
<volkerdi> Dame: Very unlikely.
<volkerdi> I used fvwm for many years. I've been on KDE for years, and now I'm giving
XFCE4 a whirl.
<volkerdi> nachox: well, I'm been collecting a bunch of AMD64 machines here...
<NightTiger> Slackware-64! YES!!!! PLEASE!!
<volkerdi> try http://slackware64.com ;-)
