Dear Sir/Ms,
Please note that the photograph taken by Mr Mark Oppenheimer used on Ms Makeba's Wikipedia page, and attributed as 'copyright free' does not unforunately have any clearance from the ZM Makeba Trust or Ms Makeba in terms of her image. The photographer does not have any right to offer Ms Makeba's picture so, and we ould please request that the reference to this photo being 'public property' be removed, and that any person wishing to use the photo, to please contact the photographer. The photographer should perhaps be advised that owning a negative/file, does not automatically qualify as ownership of a person's image contained in that picture. There is no clearance afforded the photographer at all, and the photo's taken were for news purposes only if he was accredited at the Festival.
I deal with Ms Makeba's business affairs and intellectual property issues world wide, and am a trustee of the ZM Makeba Trust, the beneficial owner of all Ms Makeba's intellectual property rights.
I am sending this from my colleague's sign in, as I was unable to locate a way of sending you such an email at the home page.
Please advsie a response
Sincerely
Graeme Gilfillan
