I just wanted to write in to say thank you for talking about Bacula in depth and about the tape backup system. I have FreeNAS with a RaidZ going well for many years but all you guys keep on repeating, one copy of a backup.. is not really a backup.
I found a Quantum Superchanger LTO4 (800GB/1.6TB) system for £200! Wow Yea I know! The LTO drive on its own costs that much. I just had to buy a SAS card, cable and 5 tapes coming in under £300
I just want to do simple one time, non incremental backups of my most important data across as many tapes as I can, store some tapes off sites and sleep easy.(in the regions of 700GB)
I am planning on putting the SAS card into my existing FreeNAS rig and try to set up Bacula on FreeNAS 9.10. Hmmm? Is that a good idea, I need a jail correct? Or should I upgrade to Coral and create a VM specifically for the backup? If a VM is better then is there a Bacula OS?
Thanks for the great show and thanks for keeping us motivated.
