1:17 PM Brian: hey
me: heya
1:18 PM Brian: It's funny hearing you go on about an Nvidia card so much - most ppl usually have issues with ATI cards
me: It very well could be that specific brand
Brian: What does the tearing look like on screen? Is it horizontal in nature? Single color / hue?
me: it is hard to explain
Brian: I'd bet you have a heat-related memory issue
1:19 PM me: basically when moving side to side, up and down, textures can "sliced"
Brian: Yep - you've got a memory issue - you only see it when the card is doing MOB operations, or layering
right?
Or sustained fills?
me: To be honest I have no idea what those terms are
1:20 PM Brian: MOB - Movable Object Block
me: My brother had it when I was in Florida as well, Ive swapped ram about 3 times from previous problems
Brian: Layering - moving / combining two or more planes into a single layer before appliing some sort of higher level op to it
me: I can run memtest86 with no problems
1:21 PM Brian: What does that have to do with video card ram?
me: ahhh
Yea, on their forums evga had numerous problems with bad ram
I submitted a bunch of threads about my problem
Brian: Well, EVGA is not exactly known for high quality stuff
me: No one mentioned bad ram
yea I bought into benchmarks like a dummy
1:22 PM Brian: I never believe what some site states about a benchmarking utility, usuallu because the kid doing the review doesn't have a clue as to what he is talking about, or he lifted his info from another site
me: True
1:23 PM Brian: You got another issue going on there besides video - did you check and see what your current interrupts are set to?
me: I have never really checked into IRQs
1:24 PM Brian: Trust me on this one...
me: Where in device management do I go to view this
It's been a while
Brian: You can't use device management
1:25 PM You need to do it in your BIOS
me: ah
Brian: and the 915 boards should by default allow you to manually specify every IRQ
me: This board is SEVERELY limited
Brian: Nvidia cards play best if given IRQ # 10 all by theirselves
Why?
me: I cannot adjust that =(
Brian: What limits it?
me: It just is, the bios, the drivers
1:26 PM I hate it
Their auto update software crashed my pc every time it ran
I had to go into safemode to delete it
Brian: Why are you uing their drivers?
me: What should I be using?
1:27 PM Brian: First rule of thumb - never ever use the MB drivers from the MB manufacturer - they are so damn old, it's not funny
In you case, grab the ones from Intel. Use the chipset installation utility. Do you need the exact link to it?
me: ah, I can find it ;)
1:28 PM Brian: Also, grab the ones for the ICH6 stuff for the core logic hub controller
Probably the same file, actually
Run it, then reboot
Try a game, and look for framerate increase
You may solve your card problems as well
me: will do
1:31 PM Brian: contact me later on and let me know how it goes, okay? I need to get out of here, and go pick up a check from some one
me: alright
1:32 PM Brian: Do you have unlimited long distance?
me: yes
Brian: Cool
Hey, do you work with Flash very much - I saw what you made with Fireworks the other night
me: Not often just for random sigs
1:33 PM I try to make cartoons sometimes
Brian: No work with making client-server flash apps then?
me: nope
1:34 PM Brian: okay
I'll catch you later on this evening...
Bye
me: see ya
I might be on a game tho
Brian: What game?>
me: Probably garry's mod, im helping my clan film a movie
1:35 PM Submit into a contest... lol
Brian: I C
me: We actually made money from the earlier one
http://www.machinima.com/smokinaces/
third place
=============================================================================================
1:47 PM me: DUDE
holy shit, THANKS
20fps increase from intel drivers
this is unreal
Brian: What, did your frame rate go up?
me: BY 20!
Brian: Listen to me when I make a suggestion, okay?
LOL
me: Hell yes
1:48 PM dude I set it to HIGH settings, on a map with 20 people
Brian: I've been doing this longer than you've been alive
LOL
me: I appreciate the info man
Brian: Not a problem - turn on all your EAX 3.0+ streams now - they will work as they should
1:49 PM me: man I really appreciate this
Im getting back on, and thanks again
Brian: Not a problem
Have a good time with your 'new' machine ;)
1:50 PM bye
me: heh
see ya
==================================================================================================
7:12 PM Brian: Still working good?
me: yea, still kind of low, but much better
7:13 PM Brian: I bet if you can figure out how to adjust the interrupts at bios level you can improve it even more so
me: Oh, I checked that out
Brian: Or, fudge around with the AGP settings (I know you have PCIe - trust me)
me: hmmm7:14 PM I need to take a picture of my bios
It basically has a PCI-E or AGP setting
which is odd...
no AGP slot
Brian: They are both the same
One is just faster, as far as software is concerned
me: yea I didnt notice much different
7:15 PM difference*
Im talking to my sister at the same time =P
Brian: Yeah, I don't notice a whole lot either when I got my card - under Linux however, the difference is quite noticeable
7:16 PM me: I will tell you, I like using DVI
Brian: Which Sister?
So do I.
me: both
Brian: I see.
me: I meant to add an s to sister
7:17 PM Brian: Anyways, I just wanted to follow up on it with you. Can I let you go for now? I'm working on the flash stuff I mentioned earlier
me: sure
