Over the last few months, there has been an increasing amount of traffic through the IT office to use the restroom. This has become a problem area for us, since most of the restroom users want to also chat with us on their way in or out.
Yesterday, I counted 26 people in the 6 hours I was here during normal hours (10a-5p). This averages out to be about 1 person every 14 minutes going through our office. With this many people wanting to come in and talk to us, it is hard for any type of coding work to happen without interruption. Before, when I had headphones, I could ignore the conversations, and keep my quality and quantity of work up to where it should be. Now, I am producing the least amount of code I have in years, because of the constant interruptions.
Besides the traffic, and the interruption to our work, they also do several things which are very inconsiderate to us.
1) They do not wash their hands
2) They do not turn on the fan when needed
3) They do not use the air freshener when needed
4) They leave the door open when it should be closed.
We have a few ideas to fix this problem for the IT group.
a) Close off the restroom except for select people.
b) Move single family into this office, allstar into the Single-Family area, and the IT department into the allstar area with a wall built to make that area an office.
If we continue to let this problem go unchecked, it will continue to effect the morale of the IT department.
