"Hey Dad, how come I keep flying off my skateboard every time I hit even the smallest of pebbles?". "Well Tom it's quite obvious" said Tom's dad. "Do you know about Sir Isaac Newton and his three laws of motion?" he asked. "No" said Tom. "Well here, sit down and i'll explain. The reason why you happend to get knocked off of your skateboard is because Newton's first law states that any object in motion will stay in motion unless an outside force acts upon it or vice versa." "So what you're saying is...I'll move forever on my skateboard utnil something stops me?" asked Tom. "Something like that son."
"Well that makes sense Dad but explain me this; how come I get tackled so hard by all the bigger football players but I can't even get them to budge when I give 'em my hardest tackle?" "Well Tom this brings me to Newton's second law of motion. It states that force is equal to mass multiplied by acceleration. What this says is that you may be hitting them with your hardest force but your mass is much smaller than there's even though you may have more acceleration due to your small size. Understand now?" asked Dad. "Yes Dad."
"But one last thing; how come I can never hit a home run when i'm up to bat?". asked Tom. "Well it's not the fact that your scronny" he said jokingly, "It's just that Newton's third law says for every action there's an equal and opposite reaction. This means that however hard the ball hits the bat, then the bat hits the ball with the same amount of force; so I belive you can't hit a home run because the pitcher may not be throwing it with enough force or you're just hitting the ball in the wrong place."
"Well Tom I have to run to work so you just remember Newton's three laws of motion and use them when you play sports and it just may help you out. Bye"
