If I was in his shoes and all the sudden new software was released and stopped working with my software (especially when the change wasn't known to him, or tested long enough to find it) I would advise my users the same.
The download count of 2.0 is half in the second 24 hours than it was in the first. Maybe because people are realizing its broken and people are blogging about it? Maybe, just maybe.
How come 2.0 wasn't posted on the Dev Blog? What are you holding back on? Maybe people would download it if they knew it was released.
Many minor releases to fix bugs right after a major release is not the way to go. They should have been taken care of before the release. That just tends to turn people off and gets bad reviews.
