QUESTION: Why is the traffic going to the connected routers interface address, and not the STANDBY IP address? The default gateway listed below is the STANDBY IP address (10.0.0.6).

     10.0.0.0/29 is subnetted, 1 subnets
C 10.0.0.0 is directly connected, FastEthernet0/0
S* 0.0.0.0/0 [1/0] via 10.0.0.6

Tracing the route to 10.0.0.12

  1 10.0.0.2 84 msec 116 msec 72 msec
  2 10.0.0.12 260 msec * 212 msec
lab-hsrp-endpoint01#

So default route goes to 10.0.0.6, but first hop in traceroute goes to 10.0.0.2 - why?

Lets try suspending the ACTIVE gateway router:

Tracing the route to 10.0.0.12

  1 10.0.0.1 180 msec 116 msec 284 msec
  2 10.0.0.12 768 msec 188 msec *
lab-hsrp-endpoint01#

.. okey, so it choose the other gateway, but traceroute still doesn't show the standby ip. why?
