Dear Deans, Directors and Department Heads,
Thanks for your efforts in ensuring the completion of the required
ethics training on a timely basis. The Inspector General's Office has
determined that about 2,300 University of Illinois employees, 1,300 from
the Urbana campus, completed the online training in less than ten
minutes, an amount of time that is considered unacceptable. The
completion certificates for these employees have been invalidated and
the employees are required to complete the training again.
This retraining will occur in January. The Inspector General's Office
has provided the University Ethics Office with personal letters for each
employee who must complete the training again. In Inspector General's
Office has mandated that these employees complete the training through a
paper-based format before February 2nd. If this paper-based training is
not completed by February 2, the employees will be considered
noncompliant and disciplinary action will be required.
To ensure compliance and eliminate the need for disciplinary action, it
is important that all units and employees cooperate in this retraining
effort. Donna McNeely, the University Ethics Officer, will be mailing
the packets to each of the 1,300 employees on the Urbana campus who must
complete the retraining, as well as sending a letter to each unit's
ethics contact person which can be found below.
I wanted to make you aware of this situation. Please note that you
should direct any questions about this process to the Ethics Office.
