I have just bought a dlink wna-2330 pcmcia laptop wifi adapter.
I was able to connect it to one linksys (WRT54G) router with WAP2 encryption.
However I am having very little luck with connecting it to another
linksys router (WRT54GL) even without any encryption.
I am able to connect to the second router WRT54GL with a different card.
I don't prefer this card because it only supports WEP.
I want to replace this card with the dlink one.
I believe the problem lies more in the d-link adapter rather
than the router itself. As I said, I was already able to establish working
wifi connections with the router. Also the router is new and most likely doesn't have hardware problems.
From what I could gather it looks like that the dlink card
associates with the AP and very soon de-associates.
Sometimes it stays connected long enough to get a DHCP IP and send out some
pings, but sometimes it doesn't even get a chance to receive a DHCP IP.
I've tested this by doing:
sudo /etc/init.d/network restart; ping google.ca
Sometimes I'm able to get a few successfull pings.
I've tested this with the router within 2 meters of the laptop,
so interference shouldn't be a problem.
BTW: My laptop is running Ubuntu 6.10
I'd like to figure out what's causing this problem and possibly fix it.
I've been watching the info from i{w,f}config and dmesg, but didn't see anything specific.
I'm wondering if there is any other place I can look at to figure out what's going wrong.
