Weekalarm.py é um plugin antigo não oficial de despertador para o amarok, essa versão é problemática, mas como tenho memória suficiente, não me faz falta. Acho que não é todo mundo que dorme com o PC ligado e usa ele como despertador... Sem ele teria mais ~15MB livres. Então devemos desconsiderá-lo também.
No caso, sem usar swap e sem rodar as coisas acima teriamos (pelo menos):

Ou seja, eu mexendo como um usuário normal (digo, sem estar mexendo com o site que tou fazendo já que eu fico com vários 'extras' como Firefox (sim, uso ele TAMBÉM pois as extensões de apoio a web designers dele são interessantes), Kdevelop e algum PDF ou outro) posso usar tudo como uso sem nenhum problema de memória, apenas não vou ter a performance ganha pelo cache.
Distribuição: SUSE 10.1 64bits (considere que 64bits gasta mais memória que 32bits por causa do espaço para ponteiros alocados na memória... e isso é sim desculpa pois uma plataforma de 64bits é evolução e memória também evolui ;)

Konversation (cliente de IRC) com 12 telas abertas, logando todas as janelas, cada janela pode gastar até 1MB em texto (eu configurei assim porque eu gosto e tenho memória). Sem ele teria mais ~34MB livres.
O amarok consome sim muita memória, mas lembre-se que ele não é um player simples, mas algo bastante complexo [lembre também da plataforma].
Akregator tá consumindo uns 32MB, vale dizer que tenho 1087 feeds para ler nele pois faz quase um mês que não leio...
O MySQL está consumindo uns 20MB de memória, o amarok está o usando, além de eu usá-lo para outras coisas.
