these are my steps:
bash$ dd bs=32 skip=1 if=KERNEL_SKUB128_1_10_10.nbf of=image.bin
bash$ dd bs=1024 skip=256 if=image.bin of=long-ce.bin
bash$ dd bs=1k count=32256 if=long-ce.bin of=ce.bin
bash$ gzip ce.bin
than i loaded ce.bin using load root. and than when i told it to 'boot wince' i got a line of garbage and nothing.

I followed the steps to restore windows ce on a 55XX including
truncating the image. but all that resulted in was when i type boot
wince i get a line of random garbage characters (the kind where they
are half symbol half letter) and than nothing. i can reset with the
joypad to get back in to the bootloader but wince won'd load. anyone
know what i may be missing?
Did you unpack the image before truncating it, or did you just truncate
the gzipped file?
