(9:53:37 PM) Dan: Hello Fred
(9:54:18 PM) Fred: Good Evening Dan, How are you this fine brisk evening?
(9:56:55 PM) Dan: I am doing decently well. Just have been questioning my morals a lot lately but that's not abnormal in the least. How about you Fred, how are you on such this delightful evening?
(9:57:37 PM) Fred: I'm actually quite well, unexpectedly. Why are you questioning yourself? It's a dangerous task, you know.
(9:59:19 PM) Dan: Isn't it? Quite frankly I'm getting frustrated with my own lack of moral foundation. Not that I have done anything an are regretting it but that I find decisions hard to make because I don't know what is right and what is wrong.
(10:00:00 PM) Fred: As per what type of decisions are you referring to exactly?
(10:01:05 PM) Dan: I do believe that having said foundation is essential to obtaining real wisdom but sometimes I think it'd be easier to walk blindly and chant verses that have been handed to me.
(10:01:45 PM) Fred: And have perhaps shaped the magnificent human being that you are ce jour.
(10:02:04 PM) Fred: Perhaps it is moral foundation in itself, just in another sense of the phrase.
(10:02:15 PM) Fred: A...different system...of morality.
(10:02:26 PM) Dan: I know quite well what you mean.
(10:02:31 PM) Dan: And are quite aware.
(10:03:16 PM) Dan: Everything can be defined, even anarchism is a type of government.
(10:03:50 PM) Fred: But to think in more senses than others anarchy was the very basis of democracy.
(10:04:03 PM) Fred: Under which, the American people thrive to this very day.
(10:04:16 PM) Dan: It's that my morals are based mostly on logic ... (cont)
(10:04:27 PM) Dan: Thrive?
(10:04:39 PM) Dan: And America isn't a democracy.
(10:04:59 PM) Dan: "Strong democratic tradition" as the CIA defines it.
(10:06:01 PM) Dan: The type of government we classify ourselves as technically is a "Constitution-based federal republic"
(10:06:09 PM) Fred: While I'd prefer not to admit it, being the realist that I am, I have to concur with your analysis of that and subsequently that of the CIA.
(10:06:32 PM) Fred: However, let us not debate governmental structures.
(10:06:57 PM) Dan: But I digress, I'll continue with what I was saying about how everything can be defined.
(10:07:19 PM) Fred: You say that you base your morals around a sense of logique. Whats incredibly faux about that in your mind?
(10:08:09 PM) Fred: Perhaps a little...heartless? Is that where you're going with that notion?
(10:08:13 PM) Dan: That the world doesn't operate logically, I have learned that quite well.
(10:08:44 PM) Dan: The emotion is the flaw of a logical morality.
(10:08:49 PM) Dan: That*
(10:09:00 PM) Fred: However logic is highly and vehemently relative to the individual defining it.
(10:09:30 PM) Fred: What's logical to oneself may be an absurd quality/notion to another.
(10:10:38 PM) Dan: Yes, quite true, I would not dare to believe that logic is universal or that I know all and would be able to reason the worries of the world.
(10:12:17 PM) Dan: Your last statement I question, if there is universal logic then it would have to be based on a commonality between all peoples. But however culture and religion dig much deeper then raw human instinct.
(10:13:07 PM) Dan: And just to qualify my statement, I believe that when humans are born their minds are like blank slates.
(10:13:17 PM) Fred: Culture and religion are based on some sort of historical premise. THAT is where the similarites and commonalites among peoples are shared. Not in their system of logic.
(10:13:18 PM) Dan: Able to be freely written upon.
(10:13:36 PM) Fred: Historical premise is normally factual and therefore standard.
(10:13:49 PM) Fred: Among any and all that fall under one specific category.
(10:15:14 PM) Dan: I disagree, culture is based on history, the history of their ancestors living in the conditions in which they were brought up, the decisions they faced, and the hardships they endured. Cultures are different because they're historical premise is vastly different.
(10:15:31 PM) Dan: their*
(10:16:02 PM) Dan: Crap, I'm getting my they're their and theres mixed up.
(10:16:30 PM) Fred: Then that destroys a system of commonality. Cultures being vastly different from one another, where does the similarity form? There is none, and therefore no sense of univeral logic.
(10:16:51 PM) Dan: Well precisely ...
(10:17:53 PM) Dan: If humans are blank slates when they're born with nothing more similar to each other then having two arms and two legs it is going to be impossible to create a universal logic system.
(10:18:22 PM) Fred: Precisely, therefore it is illogical to ask another human being for questions about morality.
(10:18:29 PM) Fred: Since it is relative to the individual.
(10:19:35 PM) Dan: Well it would be illogical to ask another human being for questions about morality that is outside of your race/region ... which would promote racism/regionalism ...
(10:20:20 PM) Fred: Hmm...yes it would. You got me there. Congratulations, I'm not easily outwitted. :-)
(10:20:30 PM) Dan: But weren't we taught discrimination was bad?
(10:20:35 PM) Dan: ^__^
(10:20:49 PM) Fred: We were taught that in a politcally correct world.
(10:21:01 PM) Fred: However, conditions in the "real world" are quite different.
(10:21:55 PM) Dan: Thank you, but it was not my intentions to outwit you, I was looking for answers because these are the eternal conundrums that ail me.
(10:22:17 PM) Dan: We're supposed to be "politically correct" aren't we?
(10:22:42 PM) Fred: I do not believe so. I believe if that is achieved, we have reached a state of hypocritical utopia.
(10:22:57 PM) Fred: The ability to express oneself in a different manner is key.
(10:23:19 PM) Fred: And that's why everyone should develop their own sense of morality. Even if it seems somewhat difficult.
(10:23:45 PM) Fred: Express yourself and no other in your sense of morality, because enfin the only person that it must fit, is you.
(10:25:51 PM) Dan: But see that is the one word that has been plaguing me for so long "hypocrisy". It is inevitable and unavoidable. To try to be fair is to only ask for enigmas.
(10:26:41 PM) Fred: However, fair is also an impossibility.
(10:26:48 PM) Fred: For it is another relative concept.
(10:27:27 PM) Dan: But then is there such thing as justice? Is the thousands of people imprisoned and killed only to advance political power?
(10:28:01 PM) Fred: Most likely.
(10:28:16 PM) Fred: A sad reality, but a reality at best,
(10:28:41 PM) Fred: My greatest apologies my dear friend, but my mother beckons me to sleep.
(10:28:54 PM) Fred: Let us continue on the same subject tomorrow evening, alright?
(10:29:21 PM) Dan: Hah, surely. Give you head some time to find resolve if there is such thing.
(10:29:29 PM) Dan: I will see you tomorrow my friend.
(10:29:39 PM) Dan: Good luck and God speed.
(10:30:48 PM) Fred: All the same to you and yours.
