Muffinbot is an IRC bot written in PHP. The idea behind creating Muffinbot is that most bots are hard to install and configure for the average user. A simple setup script run from a command line with a small setup assistant is all that is needed to have a basic installation of Muffinbot. From there, all configuration, plugins, user management, and everything needed to keep the bot running is accessed through a secure web page that is sleek and easy to use. Part of the bot is stored online, including the scripts and images for the web portal; part is stored offline, including the configuration. Configuration is kept through an SQLite database.
This is probably the first bot written that utilizes the Internet for configuration and membership purposes. In our first release of Muffinbot, we plan to have a fully-functioning IRC bot that can respond to nearly anything you program it to respond to, alongside a fully-functioning web portal.
Future releases of Muffinbot are planned to contain the necessary drivers to store configuration in MySQL and PostregSQL, and to enable logging into MSN, AIM, Yahoo! Instant Messenger, and Jabber networks for user interaction there.
No other publicly available bot that our team has found has the capability of interaction through a website or logging into a proprietary chat network. Muffinbot plans to change that.
