Duck has modified BitTorrent to run with I2P. In case you haven't
been following the peer-to-peer world for the past year or so,
BitTorrent is a program that allows mulitple clients to download
a file through a 'swarming' technique, where every client is
downloading from others, but uploading at the same time.
First of all, to run I2P-BT, you'll need:
- I2P
- Python 2.2 or greater
- wxPython 2.4 or greater
Python
------
To check your version of Python, run
% python -V
at a command prompt. You should get output similar to this:
Python 2.3.4
wxPython
--------
This isn't strictly necessary, as it's only used for the GUI aspect.
To check your version of wxPython, do the following at a command prompt:
% python
Python 2.3.4 (#2, Nov 9 2004, 22:58:53)
[GCC 3.4.2 [FreeBSD] 20040728] on freebsd5
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import wx
>>> print wx.VERSION_STRING
2.4.2.4
>>> ctrl-d
You need a version of at least 2.4 for the GUI of BitTorrent to work.
Installing I2P-BT
-----------------
Visit http://duck.i2p/i2p-bt/ and download the latest version
(0.1.2 as of this writing). Extract it to a location of your
choosing.
You may wish to test if I2P-BT works by running one of the
automated download scripts that comes with it. In the directory
to which you extracted I2P-BT, run
% get_mp3.sh
To get a test mp3. It may take a while to start up.
Downloading a File
------------------
First of all, you will have to obtain a torrent file from
one of the sites around I2P that offer torrents for download.
You should download this torrent to a convenient location for
you on your computer. For convenience, you may wish to
