main.cpp compiles without trouble. so enum foo constants are automatically converted to 'int'
i would like to prevent that. how can it do 

$ cat main.cpp
enum foo {
        FOO1,
        FOO2
};

main()
{
        int     val = FOO1;
        if( val );
}
