Writing an Academic Essay can seem overwhelming at times. I’ll give you some insight and advice on how to come out on top with your essay. There are some essential components that should always be used when composing an Academic Essay. The factors that take place in composing an Academic Essay are as follows: the different approaches or types of an essay, the proper form and parts of an essay, how to write a well written organized essay, and how to keep an essay clear for the audience.
There are four different approaches a writer can take when composing an Academic Essay. The writer can choose which type they would like to use when composing an Academic Essay. They should be sure that they are using the correct type for their topic. Some approaches may overlap in an essay. Exposition is one way of writing an essay. Exposition is when the main purpose in writing an essay is to explain a topic. In Exposition essays the writer puts forth information to the reader. The writer can also choose to write an essay using Description. Description is a detailed account of a topic. Using this type is ideal when the writer wants to describe a topic to the audience. Narration is another form they can write in. Narration tells a story or event. There is also Persuasion or Argument. This attempts to get the readers to agree with the writers’ view on a specific topic. As you can see out of these four types of essays this essay will be written mainly in Exposition because I’m going to explain to you the reader on how to compose an essay.
The form in which any writer should use to compose an Academic Essay is fairly simple. An Introduction paragraph is the first thing required. In the Introduction paragraph it must contain three things as follows: An Approach Step, Thesis Statement, and Method Statement. An Approach Step is here to gain the audience’s interest and attention. This also helps the audience to better understand the writer’s Thesis Statement. The Thesis Statement is the writer’s main purpose in writing an essay. It should be worded just right so that it sums up the whole essay and makes sense to the readers. The last piece to an Introduction is the Method Statement. The Method Statement explains in detail the four main topics of an essay. These four main topics are what make up the Body of an essay. The Body supports the writer’s Thesis Statement. It contains all the information a writer needs in order to explain and sometimes persuade a topic to an audience. This is where the bulk of an essay should be. The Body should be more than one paragraph long. The last piece to the puzzle is the Conclusion paragraph. The Conclusion paragraph reinstates the writer’s Thesis Statement once again. It sums up all that should be said in the essay. This should end the readers on a good note.
How to compose a well organized Academic Essay is sometimes time consuming. Rushing an essay is not advised. First and foremost is choosing a topic wisely. A writer needs to choose a topic that will have enough information to support the thesis. Once the writer has chosen a topic they need to research it. Writers must first find sources. The different sources to choose from are books, Internet, Encyclopedias, and Magazines. These are good places to start research and don’t forget to list sources at the end of the paper. Jotting down notes is one good way for a writer to start saving information that they have researched. The writers need to make sure they have read enough information because if they haven’t they will soon find themselves scrambling to add something else because their paper isn’t long enough. Once the writer feels comfortable with the data they have researched they should start Brainstorming. Brainstorming is a way to get all of the information in order. This emphasizes the connections between ideas by writing and nonlinear drawing. Brainstorming is branching out from a center idea. Then writers should make arrows around that center idea and continue to place topics that go along with it. Then once again they branch out from those separate ideas and add more information to them. This way of compiling information can be fun and can get a writer insight into their topic. It’s not as dull as reading information and jotting down notes. It can keep writers awake and on a roll. I personally also find writing an Outline for an essay can be very helpful. There are different types of Outlines but for Academic Essay a formal outline should probably be used. Sometimes these outlines are required but I would say a writer should create one whether it is required or not because it helps them organize their essay. A formal outline is when the writer takes a topic and sections it off. First there should be an Introduction and then under the Introduction there should be the Approach Step, Thesis, and Method. It is very similar to the parts of an Academic Essay but it’s the shortened version. It shouldn’t be complicated. It’s not detailed they are just the main ideas. Next is the Discussion which is essentially the Body of an essay, the four main reasons from the Method Statement and three reasons to support each separate one. The last is the Conclusion that reinstates the Thesis Statement. As you can see, the Outline is simply the parts of an Academic Essay but it helps writers choose exactly what they are going to put inside an essay, as well as rearranging the ideas in a certain order and organizing them.
Keeping an Academic Essay clear and to the point can be difficult. The writer will have lots of information and will want to use it all but it all doesn’t fit. Shoving information into an essay that shouldn’t be there will only make the audience lose sight of what the essay is about. The audience is the most important thing to think of when composing an essay. Writing an essay is for the sole purpose of having someone read it. Therefore writing the essay should be geared to the audience. It should be something that is going to grab their interest. They have to want to read your essay or there is no true reason to write one. Once the writer has established the audience that they are writing for they must find the role in relation to their audience. This depends on the purpose of their essay and also depends on their attitude in the essay. For example, I’m writing this essay to my teacher and class. Therefore, I’m writing this in a more personal tone so that they can get to know some part of my personality as well as the information they need. My attitude is a little more laid back than someone else that would be writing an essay to a company. They might have a more formal approach to their essay. This also ties in with the Tone. The Tone is essentially the tone in which the writer would use to talk to someone. Once again this can be informal or formal it’s up to the writer of the essay and the topic that it is on. Attitude is part of the tone. It can be serious, fun, light-hearted, or forceful. Whichever the writer may choose is fine as long as it relates to the audience and the purpose of the essay. Don’t expect patience from the audience either. Make the purpose very clear to the audience. Audiences want concrete evidence, information, facts, examples, and details. If the topic is on an argument then they want to know the writers opinion and why it is what it is. The reader wants to make sure they know what they are writing about. They want evidence to support everything they say. The purpose should be to communicate with them about a topic. The purpose should be the writer’s goal and sole reason for writing for the audience. The writer should achieve that goal. These are the most important things to know about pleasing an audience.
Knowing the type of essay, knowing the form of an essay, organizing an essay, and the purpose of an essay are the factors needed to compose your essay. Using these components that I have listed should help you on your way to composing a meaningful, well-organized, information filled Academic Essay.
