---Reasoning for my Point of View---
* Yes, the new iPad has support for 4G networks such as LTE
* No, it does not support the 4G networks in Australia. Currently a 4G network is run by Telstra. Others should be online late 2012, the iPad is not compatible with these either.
* Will it support any 4G services in Australia in a reasonable period of time (I would say up to 6 months) - No.
* Is it reasonable to expect an average person to understand the difference between Telstra 4G and the 4G the iPad supports? No.
* Is it unclear what 4G actually refers to in Australia? No. Telstra is the only carrier who use the term and only for their new 4G network that was recently launched. No carrier uses it to market HSPA/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA. One half-exception: In some locations, Vivid Wireless (a small, new telco) uses 4G to describe its WiMax network - which has been purchased by Optus for their 4G network.
* Is it thus not unreasonable to expect people can be misled by seeing the "WiFi+4G" name, thinking it would be compatible with Telstra's. 4G network?
* What have the carriers done? Removed any obvious reference to 4G in their marketing (although they may highlight support for 4G in North America).
==What should Apple do?==
* Apple should remove reference to 4G - most notably in the WiFi+4G model 'name'. Replace with 3G (potentially something else) but talk about support for advanced 3G networks (like they did with the iPhone 4S) and note support for certain 4G networks like those in North America. Apple has it backwards at the moment, calling it 4G, but noting it is "US-only" - how many consumers are buying an iPad for use in the US? The focus should be on its capabilities in *Australia*, but Apple can and should note US 4G support, thats only fair.
==Why did Apple do this?==
* I suspect management from the US led the marketing push and the Australian (and other country divisions) didn't have much advance notice and may not have that much sway. Note how Apple had already adjusted the "4G" references after the launch of the iPad in Australia after initial media reports and backlash from some customers. I suspect (but this is pure speculation) that only then did the US management wake up and realize the issue.
