Team manager Gareth Hywel-Jones wanted his boys to know that their unbeaten run would go down in Aels' short sporting history, with nobody having given the team even a chance to get out of the group stage. The team had pretty much been hastily assembled; prior to arriving in Civil Citizenry they had only won one match playing together, a 2–0 win over the hitherto-unheard-of Branta Aboriginal Protectorates in the Rushmore Junior under 20 Championship.
