<curveball> I understand where you are coming from. However I am a pragmatist, and to be honest I don't give a shit how you feel about your own community, how throwaway feels about #pickup or who is right and who is wrong
<xxxmoneypower> No one is right or wrong, man.
<xxxmoneypower> That's the thing.
<xxxmoneypower> The only reason I started my own subreddit.
<curveball> I've seen this exact same story play out a thousand times
<xxxmoneypower> Is because I wasn't going to start calling people right or wrong on seddit, when I don't run the board.
<xxxmoneypower> That's just disrespectful to you guys, as mods.
<xxxmoneypower> And it's like I'm obviously more than welcome to contribute to seddit, I've done it before? I spent weeks enriching the community and entertaining the idea of doing an awesome podcast—until the people involved went cold. So I started r/pickup so I could do the same things without stepping on anyones toes.
<xxxmoneypower> Throwaway, was pissed when he saw I was going to have a podcast.
<curveball> When did he say anything about the podcast?
<xxxmoneypower> And the rest is the tail of the tape—I'd be really happy to contribute to seddit, and enrich that community. Before it goes under. But if you guys aren't on board with that then I'm not going to act like a mod on a subreddit where I'm just another user, technically.
<xxxmoneypower> from throwaway: "I saw xxxmoneypower make a post about a "Seddit Podcast" and that really pissed me off."
<xxxmoneypower> "I have always avoided IRC, I never use it, I think it's a security threat since it exposes your IP address. IRC has a high-speed, real time dynamic that is pretty anarchic and open to exploitation by pretty much anyone."
<xxxmoneypower> "Can't you permaban xxxmoneypower from the channel? Is this where he has been causing trouble?"
<curveball> I don't see where throwaway said any of that
<curveball> links
<xxxmoneypower> he didn't say them on the subreddit rofl
<curveball> I'm going through his posting history for reference to podcast
<xxxmoneypower> just run those quotes by throwaway
<xxxmoneypower> and see how he responds
<xxxmoneypower> lol
<curveball> Where did he say them? not on the subreddit?
<xxxmoneypower> i'm sure these comments were in response: "I've already gotten complaints about this already."
<xxxmoneypower> I have no idea, shit was just pmed to me from logs.
<curveball> Ok, not going to reply as I haven't seen throwaway say anything like that.
<curveball> So look
<curveball> What is your primary goal with starting pickup
<curveball> i mean #pickup
<xxxmoneypower> moderate and enrich a user-run, community generated subreddit.
<xxxmoneypower> i started #pickup to get away from 17yr old dutch kid faggotry.
<curveball> What is the underlying desire behind moderating the subreddit
<xxxmoneypower> I was referred to seddit and realized it was a dying community, and I care about, enjoy, and subsequently am interested in pickup.
<curveball> I would like to know, because it affects where this goes, whether the goal of enriching a user-run subreddit on pickup is more important than being a moderator and having official "I can ban you" power
<xxxmoneypower> That's semi-insulting.
<curveball> No, I need to know we are starting this conversation from common ground
<xxxmoneypower> I've said multiple times to you on skype, and in this conversation—the same thing.
<curveball> Ok, so lets take moderation off the table for the time being, because I see no way of that happening for at least the immediate future
<curveball> Can we talk about what is best for the communities / users then?
<xxxmoneypower> You're more than welcome to say whatever you want curveball—cut the patronizing bullshit.
<xxxmoneypower> We're both men, man.
<curveball> I'm not trying to patronize you, I want to make sure we start on common ground, I apologize if it comes off as patronizing
<xxxmoneypower> It's all good—so what do you want to do?
<curveball> Ok. Here is what I believe. We are at the top of a hill, and it is getting steeper. The more and more this goes without getting on a common page between #pickup, you and seddit mods... the more division there will be and the more impossible it will be to come to a resolution
<curveball> All seddit is, is a ton of readers and 4 mods. That's it. Most are AFC, but ultimately the community is whatever we make it
<curveball> Had you come to the mods and been like "Yo, I want to improve the community and I see these reasons/ actions as not making that possible on seddit, I want to start my own subreddit" then we could have got to common ground before
<curveball> Right now, you are an unknown to them, and all they know is you started a competing subreddit
<curveball> No one demands or wins a leadership seat by starting a rival entity
<curveball> Ok, theory aside, here is what I would like to see. You post good shit on #seddit, not linking to #pickup. Myself and other mods will come on and say "This is good shit, xxx knows his stuff". Then seddit improves and you can be well known as the seddit guru.
<curveball> Frogma was drunk but likes your shit and throwaway just got back, I'll handle them
<curveball> You there?
<xxxmoneypower> If you were in my position and someone told you to enrich their community for them, all the benefit of getting some mods to thumbs up your input. Would you do it?
<curveball> I did do it
<xxxmoneypower> And you're a mod, you want me to do it—make me mod.
<curveball> XXX, as I said earlier, is enriching the community more or less important than you having mod status?
<curveball> I didn't ask to be made a mod, I posted a ton of good shit and replied in a ton of threads until a lot of people were "damn curveball knows his stuff" and then I was made mod, hell I don't even want it that much because its mostly flagging spam. The conversations to directing and leading seddit can happen regardless
<curveball> seddit is your community too
<xxxmoneypower> If you want me to contribute to your community, the much needed, well thought out, informative material that is also effort intensive, you can make me a mod so that I can contribute in the process of editing the clusterfuck you've already got going on. If you're simply interested in better content on your boards, I'll comment on your threads but also continue to crosspost the shit that my users a
<xxxmoneypower> nd I are pumping out,
<xxxmoneypower> if it really is an "enriched community" you're after.
<curveball> xxx, this is not a "my community" vs "your community" situation.
<xxxmoneypower> Dude WHY DO YOU KEEP CALLING ME XXX. It's WEIRD.
<xxxmoneypower> I'm not like YO CURVE.
<xxxmoneypower> rofl
<curveball> fair enough
<xxxmoneypower> Okay if it's not a x vs y situation.
<xxxmoneypower> There should be no problem crossposting quality material that I generate.
<xxxmoneypower> You don't remove content posted from RSD, or SS, or LS or anything like that.
<curveball> take yourself out of the situation for a second, and tell me when does a situation where a new guy pops into a social circle and says "yo make me a leader if you want me to contribute" That shit doesn't happen
<xxxmoneypower> I don't see why you'd be offended by me posting material I've generated for the reddit community, for free.
<curveball> You contribute, and once everyone sees you are good shit, THEN you take leader position
<curveball> I'm not offended
<xxxmoneypower> Yo you're fucking tripping now homey
<xxxmoneypower> I didn't fucking pop in anywhere
<xxxmoneypower> asking to get made a leader
<xxxmoneypower> I will tell you what fucking did happen though
<xxxmoneypower> you came into my channel
<xxxmoneypower> and basically issued me a fucking dime store cowboy cease and desist
<xxxmoneypower> as a matter of fact you've taken it upon yourself
<xxxmoneypower> to pop into our community, and ask me to help yours
<xxxmoneypower> and that frankly can go fuck itself partner, especially if you're going to start slinging mindless bullshit my way
<xxxmoneypower> like
<xxxmoneypower> "TAKE YOURSELF OUT OF THE SITUATION ~XXX~. YOU WOULDNT JUST LET SOME GUY POP INTO YOUR WORLD AND LEAD IT WOULD YOU?"
<xxxmoneypower> I did the exact fucking opposite of that
<xxxmoneypower> I popped out of your world and lead your own.
<xxxmoneypower> lead my fucking own, rather.
<curveball> You are right, I could have handled coming into your channel better. I thought I was coming in as a friend and not as a mod
<xxxmoneypower> okay so: <curveball> take yourself out of the situation for a second, and tell me when does a situation where a new guy pops into a social circle and says "yo make me a leader if you want me to contribute" That shit doesn't happen
<curveball> Okay, you said that: <xxxmoneypower> If you want me to contribute to your community ... you can make me a mod
<xxxmoneypower> Talk to the other mods, see what they think.
<xxxmoneypower> You and I are fine, we see each other completely eye to eye.
<curveball> I don't have the authority to make you a mod, but I can objectively look at the situation and can say there is no way in hell you will be a mod of seddit unless you cut the #pickup bullshit and show the seddit community and mods that you care more about improving the community than having mod power
<xxxmoneypower> They can look at what I've done for my community, and see that I care about improving communities.
<curveball> I shouldn't have called it bullshit
<xxxmoneypower> It's all good, the only reason you guys are all wound up is because this shit threatens your community.
<curveball> I'm not wound up, i just don't want to see this escalate
<curveball> and of course it does
<xxxmoneypower> It's only escalating because I'm offer you something valuable and you're giving me nothing back in return.
<curveball> I'm giving you same thing I'm giving all the other guys who post solid material on seddit, the chance to have that material be seen, help people and get community recognition of that
<curveball> Not everyone that post great material gets mod status
<curveball> Hell it isnt even about posting great material or knowing shit
<curveball> it is just whether the spam filter needs more cleaning or not
<xxxmoneypower> Rofl you've got no leverage here partner, I'm contribute far more quality content to the pickup world in general than most the mods seddit has.
<curveball> I don't desire nor need leverage
<xxxmoneypower> If you want me to help your community out, you can mod me.
<xxxmoneypower> Yeah you do, I'm a threat to your community—seddit certainly isn't a threat to mine.
<curveball> Can I quote you on that?
<xxxmoneypower> And you're starting to waste my time.
<xxxmoneypower> I don't give a rats ass curve, this whole conversation is quotable—you've really accomplished a helluva lot.
<xxxmoneypower> I've clearly made my statement by creating something this controversial in a week, with a shit ton of support.
<xxxmoneypower> That's my stand, and you can quote the shit out of that.
<xxxmoneypower> Selfishly I just want to get all my homeys laid, I'm sorry you're not in line with that.
<curveball> That's not what this is about.
<xxxmoneypower> This is about you trying to get me to save your community for the fuck of it.
<xxxmoneypower> If you want me to help change something, you can make me a moderator of the board. That's the last time I'll repeat myself, and I hope you'll take my lead and stop regurgitating the same shit as well.
<curveball> It isn't my community, would you listen to my any more if I dropped mod status and never posted in seddit again?
<xxxmoneypower> What? I don't know what that has to do with anything.
<curveball> Dude, as I 've said, I've seen this same shit go down in dozens of scenarios. Forums, guilds, local social groups, etc. Same shit, different day. I'm giving you same advice I've given in every single one of those. If you don't see where this is headed, you are blind. It isn't about "my" community or "my" users, this is about what happens to both sets of users when someone goes down this path
<xxxmoneypower> No… my community will be just fine and never return to seddit, you're community is headed for the shitter—as a matter of fact it already is. And if you're blind to that, then you haven't been reading the shit you're typing to me right now.
<curveball> The path that happens from someone creating a fractioned competing group and saying "If you want me to help your group, make me leader" is never a good one, for EITHER group.
<xxxmoneypower> Rofl you're the only one competing, I'm obviously winning. Your mods are all up in arms trying to snub #pickup out.
<xxxmoneypower> If it's no threat then why do you care if I xpost?
<curveball> It is a threat
<curveball> it is a threat to users of both groups
<xxxmoneypower> My users are in no way threatened, they have complete access to me and a core group of users who are actively involved in the growth of the #pickup community.
