I played "Klingon took kitty" in Robot Wants Kitty and I was extremely impressed with the level (my second 5 star rating if we get the bugs ironed out). However, after many tries, it failed many times, due to a bug in RWK itself. I am running an iPhone 4. The RWK bug is a timing bug, so different people may see it differently on different Apple devices (eg. The slower phone 3G may not show the bug).
One solution may be
1. Change the "open" to a green/red/blue door just before you go to the part where you get the 2nd crystsl near the front of the first ship. I got stuck here 3 times now (on both versions you posted).
2. Change any dependencies on key items (eg. The "exploding lasers") so they aren't dependent on "open" doors
FYI, I never managed to get "exploding lasers" or "rapid shot"!!
Another solution may be to get John Raptis to fix this and several other bugs :)
