George Kennan
American adviser, diplomat, political scientist and historian, best known as "The father of containment" and as a key figure in the emergence of the Cold War.
He inspired the Truman Doctrine and Marshal Plan in the 1940's.
Early as 1944 he believed that the USSR was intending to establish a sphere of influence in Eastern Europe and other parts of Asia.
Believed that a fully fledged and realistic showdown against the USSR.

After 1945 the Americans believed that because they were the only country with nuclear weapons they did not need conventional army. They went from 12 million in 1945 to 1.2 million in 1947.
George Keenan was alarmed, felt Washington was still ignoring him.
