Quick Facts:
We are sufferers, both former and current, of chronic physical and mental illnesses who have found great benefit in taking a holistic approach to our health. We are not medical professionals, but people who have had both struggles and successes in navigating the complex landscape of medicine and wellness. Most importantly, we want to share those struggles and successes with you.
Our mission is to help you be healthier by learning to take a holistic approach to your health. We want to provide you with information, techniques, and support. While we focus largely on chronic illness, anyone who wants to learn to live a more healthy lifestyle in general can find information here on diet and nutrition, exercise, mental health practice, and in particular the nexus where they all meet. The body and mind cannot be separated.
We do not specifically accept or reject the existence of spirit. That is a personal belief and one person's concept of how it fits in with the mind and the body is also a matter for the individual to decide for himself, along with every other health decision.
Furthermore, the different parts of our body do not function in isolation. Each bodily sub-system, including the mind, affects every other sub-system. Holistic medicine, also called integrative medicine, looks at the mind/body as a whole. Taking an integrative or holistic approach means looking for health solutions in every system, not just the obvious one that is being affected.
We do not promote techniques that are not backed by evidence. We believe in researching practices before condoning them. We are not opposed to experimentation, of course, because without experimenting with new ideas, science and medicine could never advance. "Alternative Medicine" is a broad field containing some very promising concepts and techniques, but also containing a lot of myths and unproven or disproven pseudoscience. Every technique, both traditionally Western and Alternative must be considered on an individual basis.
I sincerely hope what we have to offer to you here is helpful and inspiring. A chronic illness can leave you debilitated, leave you unable to live your life. Many doctors have an approach that leaves patients feeling like were treated like a disease rather than a person. You are a whole person and you deserve to be recognized as a whole person, with every part of your body and mind and soul considered in your treatment.
Best of Luck,
