Hi XY,
tell us about what's happening in Wall Street...What are your demands? Who is there with you? Which groups attend? Any celebrities? How many are you? And how is the atmosphere?
We are peacefully encamped here at Liberty Plaza (formerly Zuccotti Park) here in NYC. We have been here for 9 days now, forming working groups and meeting in General Assemblies to synthesize and form a consensus around our demands.
A number of celebrities and public figures have spoken out in support of us. A short list includes: Lupe Fiasco (rapper, @lupefiasco), Immortal Technique (rapper, @immortaltech), Amy Goodman, Michael Moore, Anne-Marie Slaughter (Former State Dept. Policy Planner, @SlaughterAM), Stephen Colbert, etc...
How did the police react until now? I heard there where people arrested already? What where they charged for?
The police, on the whole, have been very professional and courteous with us, although they have crossed the line at times. One example is yesterday, when they arrested more than 80 of us during a peaceful march to Union Square. Many peaceful, non-resisting protestors were brutally beaten and injured - and then denied care for hours -during those arrests.
How will you react if the police attacks your camp?
We have a contingency plan for if the police raid the camp. We are committed to being peaceful and non-violent, and we will hold our space.
How does the media react? Is there any coverage by major media?
The media response has been varied, with some coverage but not all fair. We continue to document and share our messages through our Independent Media Center (IMC), located right in the center of camp. This includes twitter, facebook, youtube, blogs and indie media outlets.
How do you make decisions? Do you try to reach consensus? If yes, how?
All group decisions are made by a consensus project refined by the General Assembly. It's a remarkably powerful process that enables all people's voices to be heard and synthesized into final decisions. It's sometimes a slow process, but essential to our work of creating a more participative system of government.
Did you encounter problems with people in your own lines? How did you solve it?
So far, we have remained very much in unity, and any internal conflict has been minimal. We do have structures in place to help with conflict resolution, which happens in all communities.
Are you connected to movements in other towns or in other countries?
We are growing a partnership with the Oct. 6 movement in D.C., and other #Occupy General Assemblies are sprouting up across the country in solidarity!
What are your plans for the next days/weeks/months?
We will continue to peacefully encamp here and grow our numbers and unite our voices as we communicate our demands. Stay tuned...
What can we in germany do to support you?
You can help us by tweeting/sharing info about us (@occupywallstnyc and #occupywallstreet), or ordering us food, like from @liberatospizza!
Any more things you want to say?
Thank you for your solidarity and support! We love you.
