Imagine, for a moment, that you became friends with a girl you met in kindergarten. The two of you had tons of fun. Hell, you even shared first kiss. You were inseparable.
Then, in about 4th grade, the girl had to move away. Losing contact totally, you turn to the internet for social needs. Online, you move from community to community, often forgetting entirely about their existence after you leave. There's an incident where you're cleaning up your bookmarks when you stumble upon a fan community for Paper Mario, a community you were a member of since early in its life, and it's held together by the five people who were your good friends. You have nothing in common with them anymore, having no Wii system. From then, it's quiet. You're in a long-distance relationship with a great person you met on some chat for a comic about cats in high school.
One day, as you're in #flankbook-rp, your stepmother calls you to her computer to let you know that your friend has been looking for you on facebook (a task made difficult by your having a unique and non-standard name). You have your friend add you.
She's married. (note: the guy's religious views are "im goin on being a pacifist" which I must admit is admirable, except it's not quite religion)
You talk to her, and she admits her life has been empty and crap since she moved away. She's missed you, and you've missed her. The two of you keep talking, and when you respond to her suggestion that you hang out with her with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwGNEE4dVqc (which is honestly the closest response video you can find) it's revealed that she likes My Little Pony but is somehow unaware of Friendship is Magic.
