TLG Code

Everyone

Respect. Everyone makes a big joke about how much of an asshole TLG is, but we generally treat each other with more respect than we will admit. Everyone has bad days, just, try to be good to each other, okay?

Stupidity. I don't have much tolerance for it, and many at TLG are the same. Of course, the definition of what is stupid and what is not is entirely subjective, so "don't be stupid" is hard to make into a valid rule. Here's a sketch that ought to serve as a starting point:

1. Memes are stupid. Except when they're funny. Which they aren't. Unless they are. It's complicated.
2. Typos and misspellings are NOT stupid, they are mistakes.
3. Rampant and repeated disregard for understandable English is stupid.
4. Excessive emoticons are stupid. I'll leave "excessive" undefined. Hooray for subjectivity.

Drama. It happens. People disagree and get offended. I do. Everyone does. Mostly I do. But remember, you're an adult. Airing some bad blood in public can be constructive or destructive. Try to take it to private messages, and to go on the assumption that your opponent might be an actual intelligent person you can respect. It's hard, I know.

The worst thing that can happen is third parties trying to sweep it under the rug and tell everyone to be happy and friendly *AHEM*SKULLKID*AHERM*. That isn't doing anyone a service.

Mods

Deletion. Chatango mods have the ability to delete any chatango message at any time. It's impossible to tell who did the deletion, to know what was deleted, or to recover it. Do not delete messages unless they have zero content.

As of right now the definition of "zero content" is strictly spam. Don't delete anything else.

Banishment. Chatango mods have the ability to ban any non-mod silently. This makes chatango silently ignore all their messages without letting them or anyone else know about it. Other moderators can see who did the banning, but that information disappears once the person is unbanned.

It's unfortunate that this tool is so blunt and shitty, but it's all we have to moderate with. If you must ban, you are encouraged to announce a specific time frame after which you will unban. That doesn't mean that other mods must honor the timeframe, however. There will be disagreements and drama, that's life. We try to deal with it, and move on, or we fester and die.

Consequences

This document explicitly does NOT specify the consequences for if you break the rules. You may be punished or you may not. This makes the "rules" almost entirely useless, and is likely a stupid way to do things, but it's the way things already are, and there's not much pressing need to disturb the status quo.
