Redoing a machine, want to change the OS from Vista to XP. Problem: will I still be able to use iTunes d/ld music? LGN, DIT

working on a client's machine. is currently loaded with Windows Vista which is pretty top heavy for the configuration (not quite enough mem, bit slow on the CPU), but mostly the OS is pretty thrashed and should be re-loaded rather than patched (not very careful relatives had gotten ahold of it for a while and were d/ling and installing willy-nilly, even to the point that basic OS functions are pretty ify).

OS is thrashed enough that have to boot with Windows LiveCD to access much of anything. might be able to patch, but at least a re-load of Vista is warranted.

Client has no preference with OS and has little or nothing of interest on the machine EXCEPT FOR LARGE LIBRARY OF D/LD iTunes MUSIC.

Question: not too familiar with iTunes music myself and not sure if DRM is keyed to h/w or s/w or both. will iTunes d/ls be able to be used on machine after either reloading of Vista or, hopefully, downgrading to XP?

Machine: HP Paviliion a1720n
1G RAM, 1.8G CPU, DVD-CDR combo, mem card readers, plenty of USB's, reasonable VGA. came loaded with Vista which is running like a farking dog ATM.
