Dear Dr. Watt
I am happy to report that members of the Ling family met recently and agreed to honor your request for a copy of the first edition of Gerald Lings book PRINCIPALS OF SUPERVISION. Please accept this gift to your law library with their compliments.
As you know, this first edition is very dear to the Lings. In fact, it has been passed down from generation to generation since its publication two centuries ago.
The Ling heirs expressed only one reservation concerning the donation. They fear that the books present cover will not stand a lot of handling. I have talked with the chief librarian in our city, and she advised me that a leather cover should be put on the book. If the general public is to have access to the book, certainly a durable cover is a necessity.
Would you, at your convenience, let me know your reaction to this proposal?
Because many of the Lings have already begun their holiday and will be out of the country for the entire spring semester, future correspondence should be directed to me. I shall be in Miami, Florida, during the last two weeks in December, however I will be back at my regular address after January 4.
Yours truly
