Sometimes I feel caught between two distinct worlds - the one that we all see and acknowledge and the one that some lizard-like primordial portions of our brain understands only subconsciously. We move about through the common world and accept it as normal only because peeling back the layers would be too much to bear.
Rational explanations exist for everything, I used to say, and I would go to great lengths to reinforce that belief. Of course, such explanations are not always plausible, yet we still try to force our definition of the world on them. If our sensibilities are thrown to the wind to ensure the unexplained is made “logical” or “scientific” then so be it. Occam’s Razor doesn’t support this notion, but it is infinitely preferable to believe something far-fetched as long as it proves that the world works in ways we understand.
