To whom it may concern,
This email is regarding an invoice I received in the mail summarizing my account balance for April 30, 2011.
It was never discussed, more importantly agreed to, that there would be a fee to this discovery meeting. Without ANY indication of fees, I understandably assumed that this introductory meeting was free of charge, as is typical with these types of initial meetings regarding professional services.
As there was no contract, verbal, written or implied, I do not owe you or your firm anything. As such this invoice is noncollectable; about as collectible as if I were to bill you for the time we spent together.
As I always pay my lawful obligations, if you can present a written contract that clearly displays my understanding, intention and agreement to pay the amount invoiced, I'd be more than happy to settle it.
In the future, I'd advise you to clarify the fees with your clients prior to extending any "services".
