If it was up to President Obama's 2008 CAMPAIGN PLEDGES (remember the whole HOPE AND CHANGE THING), we would no longer have troops in Afghanistan or Iraq -- and thus without that sizable military capability in the Middle East, no viable intelligence source to pinpoint Bin Laden. Now Obama is stating IN 2011, "But his death doesn’t mark end of our efforts. We must and will remain vigilant at home and abroad." This sounds like President Bush. And indeed, the credit for this accomplishment should remain with Former President Bush who remained faithfully resilient in supporting our troops in the Middle East for 7 years (and that includes the hunt for Bin Laden). Obama crafted his speech tonight to make it seem like it was because he "sent a team" and "conducted an operation" that Osama Bin Laden was killed. We have been conducting operations to seize or kill Bin Laden since 2001 -- this is nothing new. Obama will direct his rhetorical efforts towards whatever suits his campaign and what gives him the best chance of retaining power -- IN 2008, that was saying "PULL THE TROOPS OUT" and TIMELINES FOR TROOP EVACUATION -- now, it is "remaining vigilant abroad." Give me a break.
