New Zealand's Tertiary education system is linked with many factors such as Political/Legal factors, Economic factors, Socio-Cultural Factors, Technological Factors, Environmental Factors, Political/Legal Factors, Economic Factors and Natural Factors.
New Zealand has a very stable political climate, Democracy. Domestic fees are subsidised heavily by the government to encourage student to attend university and make it more affordable. Interest free student loans are also provided so that students don't have to worry about being heavily in debt when they leave university due to hundreds ticked up in interest over the years. In addition to interest free loans, students who meet certain regulations set by the government are also entitled to weekly payments from the government to maintain a acceptable standard of living. International students have much higher fees, and are not eligble for a student loan, weekly payments or any subsidies. The government wants to support and encourage tertiary education.
With more students enrolling to the university, more capital will be available to the university. With more free capital it will enable the university to upgrade older buildings and/or build new buildings to expand the size and teaching capabilities of the university.
With our aging population, university student numbers would be expected to fall due to more of the people being in the work force rather than trying to increase their education and skills. Although our population is increasing, which might cause the opposite and lead to an increase in university students as a lot of Asian countries prefer to attend university in New Zealand due to the better standard of education. A lot of younger adults are choosing to go into Labouring rather than further their education as it guarentees an instant wage which at the time is thought to be a good wage rate.
As techonolgy advances, and the rate of change in technology increases, it becomes more difficult and costly to replace old technology constantly. However, in many instances such as New Zealand's tertiary education system, the updating to new technologies may make the running of tertiary institutions and learning methods more efficient, thus making the institution more successful in purpose as a tertiary edication institution.
With such things going on with the environment lately, such as the continuation of aftershocks ranging from small in size to much bigger in size, the university is centered right in the middle of them.
