I would think its either some undiscovered security setting or software running within IE (if you put SP2 on then you can check whats running with Tools -> Manage Add Ons), or the wireless connection being interrupted, or a combination, or theres just something weird with his computer.
The login script sets a cookie held by the user, and a session variable held by the server. When a user accesses a page, if the session variable no longer exists it tries to recreate it from the cookie. If it cant recreate it from the cookie it redirects back to the login page.
Its not an issue with the site or the code. You can tell if something is a problem with the site vs. a problem with the users computer with the following criteria:
- its not happening to anyone else
- it cant be deliberately recreated on other computers
- common sense
Since I cant replicate it here, and you cant replicate it on your machine, and your users seem able to sign in fine, it fails #1 and #2. Common sense suggests if there were any issue with the login it would have surfaced on day 1 for all users/most users/a specific browser or platform, rather than 300 days later, during which time tens of thousands of successful logins have occurred.

Subject: I really don't get this...
A looong time ago we had a user who could not log into her account no matter what we did. I know I had the same problem on Brian's laptop... I dismissed it because I didn't have to use it.. but now that I have to use it for a while, it's really bothering me that I can't get logged in with his IE.
I can log in fine with Firefox. IE allows the cookie to be set. But it just returns me to the login. No information at all. I tried with the firewall off. I tried running every update I could locate. Nothing works. What else does the login need to do besides set a cookie?
This is just really annoying and I want to get to the bottom of it.
