Linux instructions
If you are already running a Linux machine, follow these instructions:
1. Plug your USB stick and learn how your USB stick is recognized by the system:
# ls -l /dev/disk/by-id/*usb*
This will print out something like below, with sdX being the actual device (for example, sdb).
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 2010-03-05 18:22 /dev/disk/by-id/usb-SanDisk_Cruzer_Colors+_4527710EBF819BC0-0:0 -> ../../sdX
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 2010-03-05 18:22 /dev/disk/by-id/usb-SanDisk_Cruzer_Colors+_4527710EBF819BC0-0:0-part1 -> ../../sdX1
2. Unmount the usb stick, then use this command to write (as root) the image iso to your USB stick.
* Replace /dev/sdX with the actual hard disk device learned from command above.
* Replace the name of the iso image below by the actual name of the iso image you downloaded.
# umount /dev/sdX
# dd if=/path/to/iso/openSUSE-11.2-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M;sync
