18:39 < nukem> hey where can i download the redhat kernel sources? im not on redhat(gentoo actually) but would like to look at the source
18:39 < open_sour> hey i bet FC7 will be so cool it will shatter space-ime! <--- lol hahahaahahaha
18:40 < anonobomb> nukem: look in the SRPMS directory on a fedora mirror
18:40 < open_sour> anonobomber: hey i like bleeding edge technology
18:40 < nukem> anonobomber: ok thanks
18:40 < open_sour> anonobomber: bleeding with the guts driping off the blade and everything
18:40 < open_sour> anonobomber: lol
18:40 < anonobomb> nukem: you'll have to emerge rpm and a rpm build environment so you can recreate the source tree by installing the srpm package and running 'rpmbuild -bp kernel.spec'
18:41 >>> ctgPi!n=fmoreira@201.19.140.207
18:41 < anonobomb> nukem: that will apply all the patches etc. that fedora has in its kernel
18:41 < nukem> anonobomber: i cannt just extract the sources with tar or zip(i remember from my redhat days i could do that) and build the kernel as i normally would on gentoo
18:41 < anonobomb> not anymore, there isn't a kernel-source package since FC3
18:42 < Firebird8!n=Firebird@pool-141-156-36-152.res.east.verizon.net [Remote closed the connection]
18:42 < autopsy> anonobomber, quit telling lies.
18:42 < jeffgus!n=jeffgus@greengables.zimage.com [Remote closed the connection]
18:42 < anonobomb> autopsy: ? I'm not
18:42 < autopsy> nukem, the vanilla source tarball is inside the SRPM.
18:42 < hollywood> sean33: you running i386 or x86_64 ?
18:42 < nukem> autopsy: so where are the fedora patches?
18:42 < anonobomb> autopsy: if he wanted that he can go to kernel.org, he wants the source for the fedora kernel
18:42 < autopsy> nukem, you can untar and unbzip2 it like normal without applying all teh patches and build it as normal.
18:43 < nukem> well i want the patches heh
18:43 < autopsy> nukem, the Fedora kernel patches are within the SRPM also.
18:43 >>> newbcoder!n=newbcode@unaffiliated/slowcode
18:43 < nukem> ok kool, thanks
18:43 >>> OpenMindDJ!n=dfg@209.208.14.143
18:43 < autopsy> nukem, then just use rpmbuild -bp whiuch applies all the patches.
18:43 < nukem> cannt i just use patch?
18:43 < _human_blip_!n=mike@220.157.65.29 [Connection timed out]
18:43 < autopsy> nukem, Fedora kernels have alot of patches.
18:44 < newbcoder> I'm on a cluster machine running fedora; how do I test if it has fuse support?
18:44 < autopsy> You can use patch if you think you know which order they go in.
18:44 < anonobomb> autopsy: thanks for repeating everything I already told him...
18:44 < OpenMindD> Can anyone recommend a good mp3 -> Wav, Wav -> mp3 converter for KDE (Fedora)
18:44 < c33> ok, Im gonna try switching the Driver thing to "fglrx", wish me luck. Don't worry, I made my own back up.
18:44 < hollywood> sean33: nevermind, its a noarch package....
18:44 < open_sour> anonobomber: yeah and when the new nvidia beta 1.0-9625 drivers came out i was in here wondering if fedora had them too
18:44 < anonobomb> open_source_nut: lol I suppose you were excited about the ati driver release a week ago too
18:44 < hollywood> sean33: wifi-radar-1.9.6-2.fc5.noarch.rpm is listed in extras for i386 and x86_64
18:44 < autopsy> anonobomber, you told him he couldn't just build a kernel as normal from a SRPM which is a total lie.
18:45 < open_sour> anonobomber: no i dont use ati
18:45 < nukem> open_source_nut: as soon as i heard about the nvidia-drivers i upgraded to them and installed AIGLX only to find out i cannt run it on fluxbox lol
18:45 < zylmak> hello, is there someone familiar with mount and authority?
18:45 < anonobomb> autopsy: no I didn't, I said there isn't a kernel-source package since FC3, but before that I told him to get the kernel srpm from one of the fedora mirrors
18:45 < autopsy> anonobomber, you're lying again man.
18:46 >>> LyosNorezel!n=AceVonWi@cpe-65-185-176-219.woh.res.rr.com
18:46 < anonobomb> autopsy: think what you will.
18:46 < autopsy> <nukem> anonobomber: i cannt just extract the sources with tar or zip(i remember from my redhat days i could do that) and build the kernel as i normally would on gentoo
18:46 < autopsy> <anonobomber> not anymore, there isn't a kernel-source package since FC3
18:46 < autopsy> You told him blatantly he couldn't unzip the sources and build as normal.
18:47 < anonobomb> autopsy: scroll up more
18:47 < open_sour> nukem: AIGLX wont work with fluxbox?
18:47 < c33> well, here goes nothing.
18:47 < c33!n=c33@ip68-8-220-34.sd.sd.cox.net ["Leaving"]
18:47 >>> egon_spengler!n=egon@pool-71-98-92-14.ipslin.dsl-w.verizon.net
18:47 < autopsy> anonobomber, dude. Please, stop telling fibs, that's all I ask.
18:48 < autopsy> anonobomber, by telling him what you did you do nothing in the way of helping him understand how rpmbuild works.
18:48 < nukem> open_source_nut: apparently not it conflicts w/ compiz since fluxbox s a window manager and so is compiz, i dont fully understand it myself
18:48 < nukem> open_source_nut: i might try to hack something together 2 get it to work when i get some time
18:49 < open_sour> nukem: can u get gnome or kde to work though?
18:49 < nukem> open_source_nut: i dont have gnome or kde on here, i setup AIGLX on my laptop but that uses the open source DRI drivers for the ATI Radeon 7500
18:49 < nukem> open_source_nut: my laptop uses kde though
18:50 < anonobomb> autopsy: you obviously didn't scroll up enough
18:50 < hollywood> nukem: fluxbox/openbox/metacity/compiz are all window managers... Gnome, KDE, XFCE are desktop environments, once component of which is the window manager... you could use almost any compliant window manager to decorate your windows within gnome besides metacity or compiz if you so wished
18:50 < hollywood> nukem: compiz and fluxbox are essentially the same function with different features
18:50 < autopsy> anonobomber, I don't have to scroll to identify a lie such as the magnitude of the one you told.
18:50 >>> Groovebot!n=guv@adsl-1-148-81.clt.bellsouth.net
18:50 < nukem> hollywoodb: so is there any way to get compiz to work w/ fluxbox?
18:51 < smorken> hi, apparently I have subversion already installed on FC5. I want to use the server functionality. I cant find any documentation about how to set it up.
18:51 < autopsy> smorken, see: man svnserve
18:51 < hollywood> nukem: I would imagine it would be a near-rewrite of fluxbox, compiz was started from the get-go to support those effects as I understand it.
18:51 < anonobomb> autopsy: well then you don't deserve to carry on this conversaion because I already laid out all the rpmbuild commands he needs
18:51 < nukem> hollywoodb: i tried to run bare X and compiz and it didnt work out to well :\
18:52 < autopsy> anonobomber, so now you're also guilty of spoonfeeding. Congratulations.'
18:52 < rockchops> Yay! Madwifi works!
18:52 < rockchops> thanks fellas!
18:52 < autopsy> You're welcome.
18:52 < open_sour> has anyone here seen the new c++0x?
18:52 < zylmak!n=zylmak@modemcable008.197-80-70.mc.videotron.ca ["Leaving"]
18:53 < anonobomb> autopsy: funny, you told him the exact same command
18:53 < OpenMindDJ!n=dfg@209.208.14.143 [Remote closed the connection]
