I am highly motivated to work for the upliftment of the underprivileged sections of the society and community service. I believe that it was only because I had the opportunity on my door every time that I was able to go through highest level of education and awareness. At the same time I realize the disparity between myself and more than 50% of people in India. I want to mitigate this disparity of opportunity with whatever mite I can.
Through this fellowship I intend to expose myself to the challenges faced by the weaker sections of the society. Putting myself face to face with the real life social problems faced by the unprivileged people will motivate me further to work for these people. I believe that working with the Guru of my choice I will get the opportunity to work towards above mentioned objectives.
Aruna Roy is an Indian political and social activist and an ex-IAS officer. She is best-known for her campaigns to better the lives of the rural poor in Rajasthan. She worked in the villages of Rajasthan for the rights of workers under NREGA scheme with the help of Right to Information Act'. She was awarded with the prestigious Magsaysay Award in Community Leadership in 2000.
